FRANKLINVILLE - Scouts from Major League Baseball organizations traveled down to Franklinville to watch Delsea’s Frank Cairone pitch.

Scouts may not have expected a pitcher's duel between two of South Jersey’s best left-handed pitchers at first. Cairone, a Coastal Carolina commit, squared off with Gloucester Catholic’s Jack Mustaro in a Tri-County Conference clash.

Gloucester Catholic survived the extra innings contest, 2-0, thanks to a two-run single off the bat of Auburn commit Guy Lynam in the visiting half of the 10th inning.

The two southpaws both turned in dazzling lines when their time on the hill had ended.

Cairone hurled five shutout innings, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out 10 batters. Mustaro tossed eight shutout innings, giving up just four hits and two walks, but fanned a career-high 12 batters in his outing. Both lefties earned a no-decision on the hill.

Immaculata signee Sal Marziani picked up the win with a pair of innings of relief, where he allowed just one hit.

Gloucester Catholic raised its record to 16-3 on the year while Delsea dropped to 18-4.
