D2 Men’s Basketball – Legendary Humboldt State coach to retire (0)

The man responsible for building Humboldt State into a perennial powerhouse in NCAA Division II men’s basketball will step down from his head coaching position following the 2009-10 season.
Tom Wood, who has guided the Lumberjacks to 10 NCAA postseason appearances during his 29 years directing the program, announced his plans to retire Tuesday. Currently 62, Wood has been coaching at the collegiate level for 37 years.

The top-ranked Franklin Pierce University women’s basketball team kept to its winning ways on Saturday afternoon as the Ravens downed Southern Connecticut State, 88-68, in The Fieldhouse in Rindge. Franklin Pierce improved to 15-0 overall and 11-0 in the Northeast-10, while SCSU dipped to 9-7 and 6-5 in league play.
D2 Wrestling – UNO ready to vie for another title (0)

The top-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha wrestling team won the first six matches and trampled second-ranked Newberry, 25-6, to repeat as champions and win its fifth NWCA National Duals title Sunday afternoon at the UNI-Dome.
The dual was a rematch of last year’s finals match where UNO edged Newberry, 23-19.

Grand Valley State University is off to a good start to another NCAA Division II national all-sports trophy. The Lakers lead the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings following the completion of the fall sports season.
D2 Football – Bearcats win third title!! (0)

Northwest Missouri State running back LaRon Council ran for 172 yards and Jake Soy caught a 26-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to lead the Bearcats to a 30-23 win against Grand Valley State in the Division II national championship game Saturday at Braly Municipal Stadium.
D2 Football – Bell wins Harlon Hill Trophy (0)

Wayne State (Mich.) University senior running back Joique Bell claimed the Harlon Hill Trophy Friday as the 2009 Division II College Football Player of the Year. Bell received 138 total points and held a commanding 42-point margin in the voting. West Liberty (W.V.) University junior quarterback Zach Amedro finished second in the voting with 96 total points and Arkansas Tech University senior quarterback Nick Graziano was third with 59 points.
D2 Soccer – Fort Lewis takes national title (0)

Fort Lewis College Men’s Soccer Team won it’s second National Championship in school history after defeating Lees-McRae earlier this evening 1-0 in Tampa, FL. David Barden’s goal in the 12th minute gave the Skyhawks the lead which they would not relinquish. Oige Kennedy is the first coach to win the National Championship in his first season. The Skyhawks finish the season 24-1.
D2 Soccer – Grand Valley National Champs! (0)

Grand Valley State claimed its first NCAA Division II National Championship Saturday (Dec. 5) afternoon in Tampa, Fla. with a 1-0 victory over CSU Dominguez Hills in the title game. GVSU finished the year undefeated with a record of 22-0-4.
