West Deptford football blanks previously unbeaten Paulsboro for Mayors Cup

PAULSBORO - Brady Cobb threw a pair of touchdown passes as West Deptford defeated Paulsboro, 14-0, in a West Jersey Football League Patriot Division showdown at Glenn Howard Stadium on Saturday afternoon.


The Eagles captured their first Mayors Cup in two years and improved their record to 7-1. Paulsboro suffered its first loss and fell to 7-1. West Deptford has won 14 of the last 23 meetings.


Cobb threw a 10-yard TD pass to Cole Paskiewicz with 11:56 left in the second quarter and found Michael Joseph for a 7-yard score with 11:06 left in the third quarter. Paskiewicz ran for 77 yards and finished with 100 yards from scrimmage. Zamir Davis rushed for 56 yards.


The Eagles' defense forced four turnovers. T.J. Cross recovered two fumbles. Al Dayrell and Kameron Simpkins each forced a fumble. Simpkins also intercepted a pass. Curtis Pearson, Jr. intercepted a pass in the end zone with 29 seconds left in the second quarter to preserve West Deptford's 7-0 lead.

Malakhai McKenzie threw for 136 yards and ran for a team-high 50 yards for the Red Raiders. Marques Eli reeled in 3 receptions for 47 yards. Frank Damminger recovered a fumble. Paulsboro was shut out for the first time since a 17-0 loss to Schalick on October 7, 2024.


The Eagles clinched a share of the WJFL Patriot Division title and can win outright with a win against Overbrook next Friday. The Red Raiders host Clayton next Saturday and can win a share of the division title with a West Deptford loss.
