Lower Cape May wrestling uses battle-tested mindset to secure first sectional title since 1982

WEST DEPTFORD - The last time the Lower Cape May Regional High School wrestling program won a sectional title, Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" topped the Billboard Hot 100 list in 1982.


Today, Megan Thee Stallion's "Hiss" sits atop the Billboard Hot 100 as the Caper Tigers also sit atop South Jersey Group 2. Lower Cape May upset top-seeded West Deptford, 30-22, to capture its first sectional crown in 42 years on Wednesday night.


West Deptford jumped out to a 7-0 lead as Talen Terinoni earned an 11-3 major decision at 113 pounds in the meet's first match. Anthony Cantando followed up the major decision with a 13-7 decision of his own at 120.


Lower Cape May responded back with four straight wins and earned bonus points in the process. At 126 pounds, Conor Barikian handed the Caper Tigers their first win of the night with a 5-4 decision. Jahcere Harris operated quick to secure a 17-10 decision at 132. West Deptford forfeited at 138 pounds before freshman Gabe Tosto followed up with one of LCMR's three key wins at 144. His 4-2 decision gave Lower Cape May a sizable 15-7 lead.


James Lorman responded for West Deptford with a 17-11 decision at 150 pounds.


Lower Cape May immediately regained momentum.
