Toms River North makes history as Mariners threepeat in Group 5

EAST RUTHERFORD - History was on the horizon as the Toms River North football team clinched a spot in the New Jersey Group 5 final at MetLife stadium.


The Mariners forever etched their names in state lore with a 41-14 thumping of Union City in the state Group 5 final.


Mordecai Ford continued the family legacy of big games on the big stage as he hauled in seven catches for 79 yards and three touchdowns. Ford is the younger brother of former Toms River North superstar quarterback, Micah Ford. North quarterback TJ Valerio completed 15 passes in 18 attempts for 159 yards and four scores. Cole Garrison added a rushing touchdown and 83 yards on the ground as well.


Toms River North finishes the season with a 14-0 record including a 19-game winning streak dating back to the end of last season. Union City ends its campaign with an 11-2 record.
