Reese Downey's 33 points propels Absegami to upset over Clearview in South Jersey Group 3 quarterfinals

HARRISON (N.J.) - The sixth-seeded Absegami High School girls' basketball team upset third-seeded Clearview, 50-46, on Tuesday night to advance to the South Jersey Group 3 semifinals.

Fairleigh Dickinson commit Reese Downey poured in a game-high 33 points. The Absegami junior has scored 30 or more points in a single game four times this season. The junior also tallied three rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in the Braves' victory.


Absegami center Kaylynn Blackwell made her presence known in the low post as she scored a quick six points to open the contest. Downey pitched in 12 points in the opening period to help establish an 18-13 lead. Blackwell finished the contest with 12 points and 18 rebounds including two clutch layups down the stretch in the fourth quarter.


Clearview had multiple chances to take the lead or tie the game in the first half but didn't capitalize. The Pioneers trailed, 26-24, at halftime.
