Eastern finishes strong against Central Regional to reach first South Jersey sectional final since 2002 (PHOTOS)

VOORHEES - The second-seeded Eastern High School boys' basketball team cruised past third-seeded Central Regional, 59-48, in the South Jersey Group 4 semifinals on Wednesday. The Voorhees program has defeated the Golden Eagles in the S.J. Group 4 playoffs in each of the past three seasons.


Eastern led by 12 points after three quarters. The lead was extended to 18 with 4:02 left in regulation.


The Vikings improved their record to 26-4 with the triumph and advanced to their first sectional final since 2002.


Kaedon Harper Myricks exploded for a career-high 21 points, three rebounds, a block and a steal. Max Portnoy tallied 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Southpaw Damien Edwards knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 16 points. The senior also tallied four assists, four rebounds and a steal. Chase Huggard also finished with four assists and four rebounds.


Central Regional finished its campaign with a 22-5 record. The Eagles tied a school record for wins in a single season and reached a sectional semifinal for the first time in program history. Jaycen Santucci led Central with a team-high 20 points, five rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block. Jordan Barbot finished with eight points and six rebounds. Miles Chevalier charted seven points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Jackson Liberty transfer Jayson King finished with six points, two rebounds and two assists.


Eastern will visit top-seeded Lenape in the South Jersey Group 4 final on Friday at 6 pm. The Vikings lost to the Indians twice this season and were eliminated from the playoffs last season with a 56-48 setback. Eastern has a 1-4 record in its last five games against Lenape.
