Men’s Hoops Update
The University of Findlay men’s basketball team is in the top spot of the first Midwest Region rankings which were released on Wednesday, January 28. The Oilers have a 17-0 record against NCAA Division II opponents and hold a 16-0 mark against in region teams.
The top eight teams in the poll at the end of the season will make the Midwest Region Tournament which will be hosted by the top seed. The winner of the tournament will then advance to the 2009 Elite Eight in Springfield, Massachusetts, which will begin on March 25, 2009.
The team, ranked first in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll, ran away with an 80-58 win over Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday, January 31 in University Center, Michigan. The victory gives the Oilers an 18-0 overall record with a 14-0 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Findlay will be back in action again on Thursday, February 5 when they host Grand Valley State University at 7:30 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
