This Week in Division II

Cross country had a big weekend as most teams competed in conference meets. Top ranked Adams State won the women’s RMAC, followed by #5 Western State and #23 Mesa State. #2 Grand Valley State won the GLIAC, #3 Augustana (SD) won the NSIC and #4 Chico State won the CCAA. On the men’s side, Adams State is also top ranked and also won their conference meet. They were followed in the RMAC finish by #6 Western State and #5 Colorado Mines. #2 Abilene Christian won the LSC title for the 18th straight season, while #3 Harding took the GSC meet. #4 Chico State won the CCAA, #7 Alaska-Anchorage handled the GNAC, #9 UMass-Lowell won the Northeast-10, and #10 Grand Valley State took the GLIAC crown. Teams will now have an off week before regional tournaments begin.

Bloomsburg assumed the top ranking in field hockey and had two wins including one against #9 CW Post. IUP fell a spot to #2 but picked up a win this week while #3 Shippensburg had three wins that included #5 Kutztown. #4 UMass-Lowell also picked up a win. This upcoming weekend features the two field hockey conferences hosting their tournaments. The PSAC features five of the top seven teams with BU, IUP, Shippensburg, Kutztown and #7 East Stroudsburg. The Northeast-10 tournament will include UM-Lowell, #6 Bentley, #8 Southern Connecticut, CW Post, and #10 Stonehill.

The top game in football this week was between Gulf South Conference rivals as #8 North Alabama defeated defending national champion #9 Valdosta State. This game helped align Super Regional 2 behind conference leader #5 Delta State. Top ranked Grand Valley State had a rare scare as they had to come from behind to beat #23 Ashland in GLIAC action. Another game between ranked teams had #2 Abilene Christian defeating fellow LSC foe #16 Tarleton State. #3 Northwest Missouri State held on for a close win over Central Missouri, while #4 Bloomsburg added another win to their perfect record as they defeated Shippensburg. Tied at #6, California (PA) and Minnesota-Duluth both picked up wins, as did #10 Central Washington. There are two more weeks in the regular season.

Men’s soccer action featured top ranked Midwestern State defeating #14 St. Edward’s in overtime while #2 Lynn and #3 Fort Lewis picked up wins in their respective conferences. #4 Southern New Hampshire tied unranked St. Anselm while #5 Tusculum was upset by unranked Montevallo. A head-to-head battle of ranked teams saw #25 Dowling defeat #20 LeMoyne. Top ranked Grand Valley State picked up two wins in women’s soccer as did #2 West Florida, while #3 CW Post had one win. #4 Winona State also had two wins including one over #17 Minnesota-Mankato and #5 Columbus State also add two in the win column.

Volleyball featured wins by #1 Concordia-St. Paul, #2 Cal St.-San Bernardino and #3 West Texas A&M while #4 Southwest Minnesota State defeated two other ranked teams (#20 Augustana [SD] & #23 Wayne State [Neb.]). #5 Grand Valley State rallies to beat Ferris State in GLIAC action, while #6 Tampa claims first place in the SSC with a win over #8 Florida Southern. #7 Washburn sweeps Missouri Western and #9 Emporia State defeated #10 Truman State in top ranked MIAA action.
