This Week in Division II
In men’s Cross Country action, #3 Harding dominated the Missouri Southern Stampede meet. All six Bison runners finished in the Top 7. Harding finished with 19 points while second place went to the host #14 MSSU who had 108. #18 Drury finished third. Top ranked Abilene Christian finished fourth in the Red Raider Invitational behind fellow D2 school and unranked Fort Hays State who place third. #2 Adams State may move ahead of the Wildcats after winning the Colorado College meet.
Women’s Cross Country action was highlighted by the MSSU Stampede with the ninth-ranked hosts placing second, while #12 Harding finished third. #17 Pittsburg State finished seventh behind two unranked D2 teams, Midwestern State and Southwest Baptist. Adams State is ranked #1 and hosts a meet this upcoming weekend.
In Field Hockey, #4 Shippensburg upset defending champion and top ranked Bloomsburg 3-2. #3 UMass-Lowell defeated #6 St. Michael’s and #10 Southern Conn. State. Second ranked Indiana (PA) beat East Stroudsburg who is tied for the sixth place ranking.
Top ranked Valdosta State remained undefeated by beating previously unbeaten Ouachita Baptist 29-6. #2 Grand Valley State handled their GLIAC rivalry game (31-13) with #24 Ferris State. Third ranked North Alabama routed West Georgia 53-0, while #4 Abilene Christian blanked SE Oklahoma State 59-10. Nebraska-Omaha remained among the undefeated Top 5 and will have key match-up this week with #8 Northwest Missouri State. Another MIAA game will also carry national implications as #7 Pittsburg State hosts #19 Central Missouri. Also on the national scene will be the PSAC battle between #12 Indiana (PA) and #14 California (PA).
In men’s Soccer action, top ranked Northern Kentucky remained unbeaten, while #2 Lynn defeated #7 Barry. #3 Tusculum fell to Lincoln Memorial and #4 Cal-Dominguez Hills tied UC-San Diego before losing to Cal State-LA. Also in Top 25 action, #15 Tampa beat #18 West Florida. On the women’s side, top ranked Grand Valley State remained undefeated while #2 West Chester beat fellow PSAC foe #25 IUP. #3 West Florida defeated Barry and #18 Tampa, yet #4 Seattle Pacific went down to #22 Western Washington. #5 Nebraska-Omaha fell to fellow MIAA team, Central Missouri.
Volleyball featured Top 10 action as #7 Florida Southern defeated #6 Tampa. Cal. State-San Bernardino is top ranked and undefeated at 11-0. Concordia-St. Paul moves up to the #2 ranking as they defeated #11 Truman who was then ranked #5. Others in the current Top 5 include West Texas A&M, Washburn and Western Washington.
