D2 Pre-Season Football Countdown Poll
#1 GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS
FOUR OUT THE PAST FIVE seasons Grand Valley State has won the D2 national title and will look to continue the building of their dynasty in 2007. The Lakers will be seeking a three-peat and Head Coach Chuck Martin will have them ready to make another run for a visit to Florence, Alabama in December. However, GVSU will have to replace several stars. They will be without All-American and Harlon Hill runner-up, quarterback Cullen Finnerty and All-Americans Eric Fowler (WR) and Mike McFadden (DL). They will be led by returning All-Americans Brandon Barnes (OL) and Brandon Carr (DB). GVSU enters the 2007 season with college football’s longest winning streak (28 games). The Lakers open the season against St. Joeseph’s (DII Independent) and then moves into the GLIAC schedule highlighted by home games with Findlay, Indianapolis, Ferris State and Northern Michigan. They play Wayne State in a neutral location (Comstock Park, MI) and will visit archrival Saginaw Valley State late in the season.
