SIU-Edwardsville is D2 Softball Champion

IN THE LONGEST CHAMPIONSHIP GAME in D2 Softball history (12 innings – 3 hours, 15 minutes), the fifth-ranked Cougars of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (49-8) claimed the 2007 title over defending champion Lock Haven (52-5). Pitching was the focus for SIUE as tourney Most Outstanding Player Kaitlin Colosimo performed well throughout the tournament and in the championship game. Colosimo, a left-handed sophomore from Orland Park, Ill., allowed one run in 24 2/3 innings and pitched a no-hitter Saturday against Lock Haven in a winner’s bracket game. She won three of SIUE’s four tournament games to finish 29-3 on the season. This is the 17th national title for SIUE as they have two in men’s soccer, seven in men’s tennis, four in women’s tennis and three in wrestling. They compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The 2007 NCAA Division II Softball Championships were held at Firestone Stadium in Akron, OH.
